Starting Late Doesn't Mean You Failed | Filipino Societal Pressure
Being a Global Pinoy isn’t just about earning in dollars or euros—it’s about grit, heart, and a love for family that knows no borders. At Pinoy Sound Radio, we’re more than just a station—we’re a community. And today, we’re proud to share real stories from our listeners, giving us a glimpse into the highs, lows, and everything in between life as a Pinoy abroad.
Leah, a caregiver in Milan, starts every morning with coffee and OPM.
“May mga araw na parang gusto mo na lang umuwi. But when I listen to ‘Ikaw’ or ‘Tadhana,’ I cry a little and then move forward. Music helps me reset.”
She says Pinoy Sound Radio reminds her of home, especially during the holidays.
Working as an electrical technician in Riyadh, James sends most of his earnings to his family in Laguna. It’s been seven years since he last saw his kids.
“Mahina ang signal sa trabaho, pero pag-break time, naka-headphones na ako agad. Kahit 30 minutes lang, I feel like I’m back in the Philippines.”
He dreams of building a small hardware store back home so he can finally return for good.
For Marites, adjusting to life in Toronto wasn’t easy—especially during the long, cold winters.
“I didn’t know anyone here at first. But hearing familiar songs made me feel less alone. When I heard ‘Anak’ play on your station, I cried like a baby.”
Now, she listens to Pinoy Sound Radio while cooking adobo and playing with her toddler.
Ron is an OFW in Dubai working in hospitality. Every Friday, he and his flatmates hold karaoke nights featuring OPM classics streamed live from Pinoy Sound Radio.
“That’s our stress reliever. We might be far from home, but singing ‘Bakit Pa?’ with friends makes it all bearable.”
He even called in once to dedicate a song to his mom back in Pangasinan—and she heard it!
Clarisse is raising her two young kids in Nagoya, but she’s making sure they grow up connected to their Filipino roots.
“We play OPM lullabies at bedtime. And now my son sings ‘Hawak Kamay’ with me. Nakakaiyak, promise!”
She says Pinoy Sound Radio helps bridge the cultural gap for second-gen Pinoys.
Whether you’re working night shifts in New York or taking your lunch break in Abu Dhabi, you’re not alone. Our listeners’ stories remind us that while every OFW’s journey is different, the love for family, country, and music unites us all.
At Pinoy Sound Radio, we’re honored to be part of your everyday lives, bringing you the songs that heal, uplift, and inspire.
📻 Streaming 24/7—tuloy-tuloy ang OPM para sa bawat Global Pinoy.
We’d love to hear it!
Send us your own “buhay abroad” kwento—big or small. You might be featured in our next blog or live shoutout.
📢 Don’t forget to request your favorite OPM song while you’re at it!

Sarap Stories is a storytelling show where every story starts with a dish. Listeners share their memories around a specific Filipino food. Each kwento is paired with OPM music, making it a radio feast of emotions. This is more than a food show—it’s about love, home, and healing through memory and flavor.
